Chapter 1

I am the Luna of the Red Moon Pack. Yet, when my daughter died, she didn't even get a proper burial shroud.
She was thrown at my feet—skin and bones, covered in wounds.
As a werewolf of the rare Astolpho bloodline, I faked my death ten years ago. To keep the pack safe, I entered the Moon Goddess Sanctuary, using my bloodline to protect their future.
Ten years later, with only two months left until I could leave the Sanctuary, I dreamed of reuniting with my mate and my pups.
But my daughter, Anna, was dead.
Only then did I learn the truth. Shortly after I left, my mate, Alaric, brought home a girl named Stella, claiming she was his adopted daughter.
To keep Stella happy, Alaric smashed the keepsakes I left for Anna and let Stella steal Anna's mate.
My son, Jace, even sent all the healers away while Anna was dying in labor—just to treat Stella's migraine.
My heart bled. I willingly protected this pack for ten years, and this is how they treated my daughter?
I walked out of the Sanctuary.
They didn't know—I could protect the pack, but I could also destroy it.
Chapter 1
"The real Alpha's daughter died worse than a rogue."
The guard outside blew a smoke ring, his voice full of open mockery.
"Tell me about it. Jace, the Alpha heir, is ruthless. That was his own sister. When Anna was bleeding out and begging for help, he refused to let the healers in. I heard her newborn pup died, too."
"Of course. Miss Stella had a migraine. The best team of healers was with her. Who would dare care if Anna lived or died?"
"Tonight's going to be huge. The annual pack gala. I heard the Alpha is going to officially announce Miss Stella as the rightful eldest daughter of the Red Moon Pack."
"Then what about Anna?"
"A dead body, I guess. Why else would they throw her in here without even a grave..."
The footsteps faded away.
With trembling hands, I pushed open the heavy bronze doors. My eyes fell on the frail figure on the floor.
Ten years ago, for the pack's prosperity and for my beloved mate Alaric, I willingly locked myself in this isolated Sanctuary to pray.
I thought my sacrifice would buy peace for my family and glory for my pups.
But today, they delivered my daughter's corpse.
I reached out and brushed the hair from Anna's face.
Her eyes were wide open, frozen in unyielding despair.
Her proud blonde hair was matted with blood. Her stomach, which once held a new life, was now just an unhealed wound covered in glaring red.
I remembered the last time I saw her, ten years ago.
She cried her heart out next to my body. "Mom... don't leave me. I'll be good, I promise..."
Back then, I thought we only had to wait ten years to reunite.
I never expected this.
Touching Anna's cold cheek, I suddenly laughed.
The sound echoed in the empty Sanctuary, growing louder.
My wolf was roaring inside me, dying to tear everything apart.
"Luna!"
The Grand Magus stumbled into the Sanctuary. Seeing the body on the floor and the look in my eyes, he turned pale and dropped to his knees.
"How dare you let her lie on the cold floor?" I stood up, looking down at him.
My aura pinned him down.
"Luna, please... it was an accident..." He trembled, cold sweat dripping from his forehead.
"An accident?" I sneered, stepping closer. "I sacrificed ten years of my freedom, drained my bloodline to feed you all, and this is how you repay me?!"
He stayed glued to the floor, too scared to look up.
"Where was your Alpha when my daughter was bleeding to death in labor?" I grabbed him by the collar and hauled him up. "Speak!"
"The Alpha... he said she was just having a pup and told her to stop faking it. He said Miss Stella's migraine was more important..."
"A migraine. Perfect."
I let go, and he dropped to the floor like a sack of dirt.
A migraine got the best healers.
But my Anna couldn't even get one healer while she bled out!
I turned around, my eyes landing on the center of the altar.
A faint blue light pulsed there—the power core the pack relied on to survive.
As long as it existed, the pack would have endless power and wealth.
I turned and walked toward the door.
Realizing what I was doing, the Magus's eyes widened. He scrambled over and hugged my legs tight.
"Luna! No! You can't leave the Sanctuary!" he screamed. "The core is in its most critical stage! Just two more months! It will stabilize in two months! If you leave now, ten years of effort will be wasted, and the pack will fall apart! Please, think of the greater good!"
The greater good?
I looked down coldly at this hypocritical old fool.
I ripped off the heavy, elaborate prayer robes.
Rip.
The sharp sound of tearing fabric cut his screams short.
I pulled out a silver dagger.
The blade gleamed with a bloodthirsty chill in the moonlight.
"The greater good?" I kicked him away hard and watched him curl up in pain.
Gripping the dagger, I strode toward the Sanctuary doors.
"My daughter is dead. Screw the greater good. I'm going to collect what they owe Anna myself."
Chapter 2
I walked out, dagger in hand. As I left, the Sanctuary began to shake.
In an instant, it collapsed into ruins.
The Magus, still cursing me as a madwoman, was buried underneath.
I didn't look back. I headed straight for the Red Moon Pack estate.
But at the main gate, a guard stopped me.
He slapped my car window rudely and looked down at me. "The Alpha said no one gets in without an invite today. Go back."
Seeing the disgust in his eyes, I realized he thought I was Anna.
We looked exactly alike, like two peas in a pod.
Anna used to say she never felt lonely because when she missed me, she could just sleep holding a mirror.
It felt like I was hugging her.
I fought back the tears and looked at the captain of the guards.
"Aren't you afraid I'll tell the Alpha about your attitude?"
He burst out laughing.
The other guards behind him cracked up too, whispering among themselves.
"Does she still think she's the precious princess from when the old Luna was around?"
"Tell the Alpha? Like he or Alpha Jace would even care."
"Right? Last time Wyatt slapped her in public, she came crying to the Alpha and couldn't even get past the gate."
"I remember that. I was on duty. I heard she got really sick after that. I was actually worried for a bit since she's Jace's sister. But guess what? Jace gave me a bonus for doing a good job with security, haha."
Amidst their harsh laughter, it dawned on me: Anna's life had been ten thousand times worse than I could have ever imagined.
The second year after I entered the Sanctuary, Alaric brought Stella to the estate.
On her first day, she broke the amulet I left for Anna.
Alaric was furious—at Anna.
"You know Stella just got here and she's an orphan. Why are you showing off?"
So, Anna's toys, dresses, and jewelry all became Stella's.
In her third year, she pushed Anna down the stairs.
Jace just looked at Anna coldly, full of disgust.
"Framing Stella like this... I can't believe you're my sister!"
In her fifth year, even Anna's mate, Wyatt, fell for Stella.
If it weren't for the mate bond I set up for them before I left, she would have had to give up her mate, too.
The captain leaned down, smirking.
"I call you princess, and you really think you're royalty. Miss Stella is the apple of the Alpha and Jace's eyes now. If you know what's good for you..."
Before he could finish, I pushed the car door open and slit his throat with my dagger.
He died without making a sound.
The others freaked out and backed away.
"You killed the captain! Miss Stella promoted him!"
"Go tell the Alpha!"
I ignored the fleeing guards, crouched down, and carefully cut out the captain's tongue.
A mouth that only speaks garbage is better off gone.
Ignoring the blood on me, I walked step by step toward the banquet hall.
The grand annual pack gala was in full swing.
Alaric was looking lovingly at Stella.
"Stella is gentle, kind, and capable. From now on, she is the rightful eldest daughter of the Red Moon Pack..."
I raised my hand and knocked over the champagne tower, cutting Alaric off.
As everyone stared at me, I said softly, "Did you ask my permission to make her your eldest daughter?"
Chapter 3
"It's Anna! What is she doing here? Isn't she afraid the Alpha will get mad and lock her in the isolation ward again?"
"If she were smart, she'd stay out of sight. At least then the Alpha and Jace might show her some mercy..."
The pack elders whispered, looking at me with pity and mockery.
Before Alaric could speak, Wyatt frowned and said coldly, "Anna, why aren't you going crazy in your hospital room? What are you doing here?"
He glanced at the blood on me, his face turning dark.
"And what's with the fake blood? Who are you trying to scare? You really are insane!"
I narrowed my eyes and recognized him.
Anna's mate.
He looked exactly like his father.
Back then, his dad was a drunk, and he was just a struggling werewolf in the slums without a decent shirt to his name.
When he got hit by a car and broke his legs, Anna was the one who found him and kindly took him to the hospital so he wouldn't end up crippled.
I still remembered a young Wyatt kneeling solemnly in front of me, raising three fingers to swear an oath.
"Don't worry, Luna. If I ever betray Anna, may lightning strike me down! May my soul never find peace!"
I believed him.
So, I gave him the chance to be Anna's mate and made him a Gamma warrior.
But in just ten years, the man who promised to protect Anna forever couldn't even tell the difference between me and the woman who bore his pups.
How pathetic.
Before I could speak, Stella started crying.
She choked out, "I know Anna hates me. Let's just forget it... I'm just an orphan. I'm lucky enough that the Alpha brought me to the estate. I don't deserve to be the eldest daughter."
"It's only natural that sister Anna is upset."
Hearing this, Wyatt's face darkened.
He wrapped an arm around Stella's shoulder, glaring at me with pure annoyance.
"Stella barely escaped those rogues. Can you stop making things hard for her?"
"Think about how you lived in the estate while Stella was suffering out there!"
"She got kidnapped by rogues because of you. It's just a title. You owe her this!"
How did Anna live?
I had just heard the guests whispering.
Four years ago, Stella and Anna were kidnapped together.
The kidnappers said they wanted the Alpha's daughter.
The Magus threatened to kill himself to stop Alaric from trading Anna for Stella.
But because of that, Anna was thrown into the isolation ward.
They said since Stella was suffering, Anna didn't deserve to be happy.
So she was locked in a dark room for twelve hours a day, given only one piece of dry bread. She was so hungry she chewed her nails to the quick.
She lived worse than the lowest Omega in the pack.
She finally made it to the bonding ceremony I arranged for her, and she and Wyatt had a somewhat sweet time.
But right after she got pregnant, Stella came back.
Stella shed a few tears, and Wyatt handed over the pup Anna had risked her life to deliver.
No matter how much she cried and begged, no one cared.
From that day on, Anna's mind started to slip.
Hearing all this, my heart bled.
I couldn't imagine how much pain my daughter had been in.
Seeing me stay quiet, Wyatt thought I felt guilty.
"Apologize to Stella right now and get out. I might forgive you this once for the sake of our bond. Otherwise, I'll ask the elders to force a rejection. Who else would want you but me?"
He leaned in and whispered in my ear, "If that happens, you won't even have the right to visit your mother's grave."
I looked up at him.
He really was her mate—he knew exactly what Anna feared most.
Too bad.
I calmly drove the silver dagger into Wyatt's stomach and said lightly, "Anna doesn't need to visit me anymore. From now on, I'll be the one visiting her grave."
"But before that, I need to send you all to hell to keep her company."
Chapter 4
Amidst the gasps of the crowd, the dagger sliced into Wyatt's stomach.
Unfortunately, the guards were fast. I didn't have time to finish him off; he just fell to the floor, heavily wounded.
I tried to lunge at him again, but two strong guards tackled me, twisting my arms hard behind my back.
My bones cracked, and the dagger slipped from my hand.
I was pinned.
Alaric looked furious. "Anna, have I spoiled you too much? Who gave you the nerve to pull a knife in front of me?"
Jace, holding a crying, terrified Stella, comforted her before turning to Alaric. "Father, we can't let Anna get away with this anymore! She stabbed Wyatt today; who knows if she'll attack you tomorrow?"
He glanced at me with disgust and said casually, "Have Wyatt reject her, and lock her back in the isolation ward."
I stared at them without blinking.
Looking at my wonderful mate and son, Anna's great father and brother, I actually laughed.
Alaric frowned and asked what was so funny.
I looked him dead in the eye and, for the first time, spoke in Anna's tone. "Aren't you afraid Mom will come back and make you pay for treating me like this?"
Alaric frowned slightly and pursed his lips. "You brought this on yourself. I'm just doing my duty as a father to discipline you. Your mother would understand my position."
His position?
What position?
Jace sneered. "You have the nerve to bring up Mom? Stella suffered that kidnapping for you. You owe her for the rest of your life! We're only sparing your life because of our blood."
Stella let go of Jace and stumbled over to me.
She cried, "Sister, it's all my fault. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have come back alive. I should have died out there."
She was crying, but her eyes were smiling.
Stella leaned into my ear and whispered with a laugh, "You're so lucky. You lost so much blood, and you're still alive? Too bad your pup wasn't as lucky. I had someone strangle her."
"I'll tell you a secret. I was never kidnapped. It was all a lie."
So that was how Anna's pup died.
I bit my lip so hard I tasted blood.
Stella's smile grew wider, as if she was enjoying my pain.
"Can't handle it? What if I told you I threw your first pup into the river and drowned him? Would you go crazy?"
"Or are you going to cry for your mommy to save you again? Save it. She's dead. Dead people are useless."
She scoffed, "Even if she were alive, so what? Father, Jace, and Wyatt only love me. If she came back, she'd just have to accept me as her daughter."
Only love her.
My killing intent boiled over, but I just smiled.
"I have a secret for you, too. I am that dead mother you're talking about."
Before she could react, my eyes flashed pure gold. My fingers shifted into sharp claws, and I lunged straight for Stella's throat.
"Stop!"
"Let her go!"
Amidst their angry shouts, I slashed her arm with one hand and grabbed her pale neck with the other, laughing out loud.
Alaric, who had been sitting in the Alpha's seat, finally stood up. His pupils shrank as he stared at my fur-covered right hand.
"Anna, you..."
I licked my bleeding lip and cut him off. "Alaric, it's been ten years, and you mistook me for our daughter. I'm truly heartbroken."
Chapter 5
"Maeve? Are you saying you're..."
"Shoot her!"
Jace's roar cut off Alaric's question.
A second later, a sharp gunshot rang out. A silver-laced tranquilizer dart pierced my shoulder.
The sharp pain made me lose my grip and fall to the floor.
I realized then that the moment I walked in, Jace had ordered snipers to aim at me, ready to blow his own sister's head off at any second.
Catching my gaze, Jace carefully shielded Stella behind him, walked up to me, and slapped me hard across the face without a second thought.
My head snapped to the side, ears ringing.
"What did Stella ever do to you? You've hurt her so many times and she took it, but you're so petty you can't stand her. Now you want to kill her? And pretending to be Mom? Anna, you make me sick!"
Jace's eyes were full of disgust.
Stella peeked out from behind him, raising an eyebrow smugly.
She mouthed: I told you, bringing up your mom wouldn't work.
I ignored her taunt, spat out a mouthful of bloody saliva, and looked up at Jace.
"Kidnapping? Are you blind or just stupid?"
When I first heard about it, I knew something was wrong.
For the past ten years, the pack's core power had been stable, crushing any rogues or rivals. There was no way rogues could break into our territory and kidnap the Alpha's daughter.
"Stella staged the whole thing just to make you feel sorry for her!"
Jace's face didn't change. He just looked disappointed.
"Still making excuses."
"I know Stella better than anyone. She's sweet and kind. She would never do something like that!"
Alaric chimed in. "Exactly."
"Anna, stop shifting the blame. How did your mother and I end up with a daughter like you?"
Looking at Jace and Alaric defending Stella unconditionally, I found it utterly absurd.
I wiped away a tear from laughing and asked softly, "Why do this? Anna is your real sister."
I really didn't understand.
When they were little, Jace was so protective of her.
When Anna made a mistake, he would hide her behind him, puff out his chest, and say to punish him instead.
When she cried, he would hold her on his lap and clumsily hum soft lullabies.
That was why I felt safe leaving ten-year-old Anna behind to guard the Sanctuary.
I thought with her father, brother, and mate protecting her, she would be safe and happy.
But they'd rather believe a stray orphan than their own flesh and blood.
Jace pursed his lips, about to speak, but Alaric's voice rang out.
"Because Stella is my biological daughter, too."
